Episode Highlights

About

Chip Phillips is Associate Director of the Facilities Condition Assessment Program at Yale University, where he is helping build a new condition assessment program across more than 530 buildings and 22 million square feet, some dating back to the 1750s. He has spent over three decades in condition assessment, capital planning and project management.

In this episode, Chip explains how Yale is collecting, using and maintaining facility data, and why knowing what you need from an FCA comes before choosing a methodology. He also holds strong opinions on Facility Condition Index, setting out where the metric earns its place, where it can mislead, and why the method behind a number matters as much as the number.
