Peter Heimbach is Director of Special Projects for the State of Tennessee, a role he reached by way of architecture school, two decades in private practice, and the post of Tennessee’s State Architect. The interest started well before any of that, looking at shop drawings alongside his father as a kid.
In this episode, Peter works through one of the field’s hardest problems: getting a building’s information to survive every handover, from design to construction through decades of operations and eventually into renewal. His case for BIM rests on the data behind the model rather than the model itself, and on whether that data lasts.
