Town of East Gwillimbury

Project Overview

The Town of East Gwillimbury retained Roth IAMS to undertake a comprehensive Accessibility Audit (AA) for the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex, located at 1914B Mount Albert Road, Sharon, Ontario. The Town’s objective was to enhance the built environment to be more inclusive—recognizing the diverse abilities of patrons and staff—while identifying practical opportunities to remove accessibility barriers.

The Accessibility Audit was also intended to support the Town’s pursuit of Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF) Certification and to inform an application to the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF).

Scope and Objectives

Roth IAMS completed a detailed Accessibility Audit focused on identifying existing and potential barriers throughout the facility, including:

  • Paths of travel
  • Building entrances and exits
  • Interior circulation routes
  • Amenities and public-use spaces

Using a structured, regulation-aligned assessment approach, Roth IAMS collaborated with Town representatives to document barriers and outline improvement opportunities that align with RHF accessibility principles and inclusive design objectives.

Assessment data was captured and organized using SLAM CAP/EQUIP, ensuring consistency and traceability across deliverables.

Key Deliverables and Constraints

Challenge: Delivering a comprehensive Accessibility Audit within a tight project timeline, while aligning findings with funding and certification objectives.
